Trip Update 2: CTX Explore

Bryan provided an update and a picture of the group at the Springs at Colorado Bend State Park. More pictures will be published on Instagram (@CampWR):

This morning, we had a great breakfast with Gabe & David cooking. Then we moved our campsite to a new location, along the way finding ways around obstacles.  For lunch we headed down the Spicewood Canyon Trail and stopped at the beautiful oasis of Spicewood Springs, which is a series of pools and short waterfalls containing cool, clear water. It was incredibly refreshing! We'll spend the rest of the evening in camp, with Simon & Simon cooking a hearty dinner of red beans & rice. Tonight we'll relate our experiences of finding ways around obstacles & through challenges to the spiritual life using Philippians 3:13-14 to guide the discussion.
Tomorrow morning, we'll pack up, get one more hike in, then head off for a celebratory lunch before going home.

Trip Update: CTX Explore

Received a brief report from Bryan:

The group has arrived safely and set up camp. Dinner prep is underway and things are going well. After dinner they will take a quick sunset hike, then settle down for discussions, games and sleep. They are camped at Sulphur SpringsCamp near the park. It is a beautiful area and with distance from other campers.

Adventures Kick Off This Weekend

Camp staff is preparing for a special Wilderness Ridge summer.

Adventures Kick Off this Weekend

The Colorado Bend Adventure trip leaves this Friday for a weekend of hiking and camping at Colorado Bend State Park. This park is one of the most beautiful and unique places in Texas and offers a variety of environments for hiking and exploring. Scenic 60' Gorman Falls is one of the highlights along the hiking trails.

Later this summer, CWR will host two Adventure trips to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in New Mexico. This is our fourth year leading campers to this location. This awesome Adventure is a great learning and growth opportunity for older teens, providing an opportunity to take on an outdoor challenge before returning to the classroom in the fall.

MDS using CWR RV Park

This summer, groups coordinated by Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS) will be staying in the camp's RV park while serving Bastrop County families affected by the recent floods and fires. We're pleased to provide this support for their commitment to aid in the recovery efforts throughout this region.

Woodsman Camp at McKinney Roughs

Preparations for our Woodsman (ages 7-13) Camp at the LCRA McKinney Roughs facility are almost complete. Registrations for the two weeks is at 90% and while we are working to expand our capacity, we expect this opportunity for a great summer of learning, fun and fellowship will soon sell out. Register Here. We also have a few summer staff positions available, including adults to work as counselors or in the kitchen.
Our theme this summer is LEAD:

  • Love Sacrificially - Great Men Live for More than Themselves
  • Expect the Greater Reward - The Gospel Provides Hope
  • Act Courageously - God will give you Strength and Courage
  • Deny Passivity - Channel Your Efforts into Positive Endeavors

Through these key elements, boys will learn that Jesus leads them to a life of action and service, with eternal consequences. Our key verse this summer is 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

Mike Lindig Tackles Appalachian Trail

Mike Lindig, long-term supporter and former board member of Camp Wilderness Ridge, is traversing the Appalachian Trail. Kicking off in early April near Harper's Ferry, Virginia, Mike is taking on the northern portion of the trail this summer. You can follow his progress here, where according to his last update, he is now in New York. He is enjoying the challenge and making many friends along the way. Mike has designated Camp Wilderness Ridge to receive donations in support of his 2,169 mile hike.

Ongoing Search for Recovery Property

We are continuing to search for an appropriate property for the restoration of our camp facilities. Our key criteria is to find an isolated 75-150 acre property with forest elements, a lake or the topography needed to create a lake, robust access, and public water supply. Our search has centered on Bastrop County and surrounding areas, both inside and outside the Lost Pines where we currently operate. We have been evaluating available properties for their suitability and the ability to build out a safe and appealing camp facility. Please continue to pray with us that we will acquire a property that will provide an outstanding camp experience for years to come.

Here's how you can pray for CWR right now

If you haven't already signed up for a half hour slot on this Day of Prayer, please consider praying with us on your own! Here's a prayer guide from Ron Hunt:

This, then, is how you should pray:
’Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
— Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)
