Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Answered prayer…Praise God! In July, the plaintiff attorneys filed to nonsuit (dismiss) Camp Wilderness Ridge from the law suit related to the February 28, 2009 wildfire.

We praise God for the huge success of our summer camps as we served 221 boys or young men (13 years or older). The largest number of summer campers ever served at CWR. Ten chose to follow Jesus Christ.

God provided an incredible group of men to serve with us each week as Servant-Leaders over a cabin of campers, Chaplains plus Servant And Leadership Trainees (SALT) as Junior Counselors or Work Crew.

Announcing the Good News was our focus each week of camp which we presented in the context of Dare to Be a Daniel. The Dare to Be a Daniel teaching came from material published by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. As a result the Dare to Be a Daniel (D2BD) this ministry partnered with us by providing each camper a personalized Identification Card to access a special website (17 and under) with message boards and exclusive content to challenge them to continue to grow in Christ-likeness. In addition, the packet included “dog tags” with four tags inscribed with Scripture and a diagram to be used as a witnessing tool…all provided to us at no change. We are very thankful.

One of the parent evaluations stated about their son “He is very excited to get back to our church regularly. I feel your camp is a big reason for that.”

Please pray for…

New followers of Jesus Christ…God’s protection and leading to a church where they can grow and serve.

Believer campers that they experienced more than a “mountain top experience”…God’s power to continue in His Word and to stand firm for Him as they share their faith and the Gospel.

Summer Camp staff support raising equal 100% of what is needed, approximately $16,000.

Please pray for God to meet our camper scholarship short fall of $3,000.

For God’s protection and provisions over Camp Wilderness Ridge.

Come be a part of a rewarding experience that will allow you to serve people as you grow in your spiritual walk!

Fall 2010 Campouts/Retreats Schedule

We need volunteers to help us provide an incredible experience for our guests: Father/Son or Daughter campouts, Family or organization retreats. Review the calendar to select the weekend(s) that you can come serve with us.

Our needs cover every aspect of our camp. You can serve…

Kitchen Staff (cooking assistants, food preparations, meal setup and cleanup, including washing trays, pots & pans, etc.)

Trash, restroom detail

Activities Staff (Challenge Course – Zip Line, Climbing Wall, Archery, Riflery (BB & Pellet), Waterfront (canoes & fishing), Group Games, etc.

Photographer(s)

DVD Slide/Video Production (Saturday night)

Utility Player(s) (Does a little of everything as needed)

As a volunteer there are no costs to you. We provide meals and, as needed, sleep accommodations. Church small groups (men & women) can serve together. Men, it is an excellent opportunity to come serve with your son or daughter.

Usually, we need helpers on Friday beginning anytime after 5:00 pm (arrive when you can) on through about noon on Sunday (go when you need to go). Yes, you can just do Saturday or any other time period that is best for you or your group. Just let us know your schedule, email: sandy@wildernessridge.com. If you have questions or need additional information please call CWR office at 512-237-4442.

This is the largest generation in our history that knows less about Jesus than any other. Join with CWR to narrow that gap by looking for opportunities to share the GOOD NEWS

May we faithfully serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 2010!

In Him,

Our total attention is now on preparations, staffing, and training. Specific staffing needs are:

Chaplain

Servant-Leaders (ages: 18-99) lead a cabin of 8 campers

	Certified Lifeguards

Men
Consider participating and encouraging other men to be a part of raising boys and young men to be followers of Jesus Christ. As Biblical men they are ready to be husbands and men in the community that women can respect and trust. Call me at 512-554-5047 or email ron@wildernessridge.com to discuss specific opportunities.

Praise God! The first two sessions of our Woodsman (boys 7-12 years old) Camps are full and the other two are over half full so there is an urgency to complete our staffing.

We need your prayers for the two sessions of Young Man Challenge Camp (young men 13-17 years old) which are filling slowly. Pray for God to bring the young men and pray about…who you know could benefit from a Christian camping experience. Please consider, if needed, helping to pay for the camp which is $280. Also for young men is Digital Music Video Camp. Complete information on these camps here on our website. Questions? camp@wildernesridge.com.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Praise God! Spring break Day Camps were a great success with 5 people coming to the life-changing reality of Jesus Christ. Our thanks to Julie Medford for recruiting a team of adults and students to serve as leaders or served with the preparations and staffed activities. Julie also led the science experiments and crafts. Sis Hammack assisted by Brad (her husband) and CWR Board Chairman, were at the Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) and discussed God’s creation with snakes, fish, birds, frog, “curly” horse, and Llamas. Only one rainy day, the rest of the week was beautiful weather.

Retreats & Campouts – Come serve with us as we serve upcoming church retreat groups and father/son campouts. What we need is help with kitchen tasks, meal set-up and servers, activities assistants (set-up/takedown, and staffing) and clean-up. We provide meals and sleep accommodations (lodge, apartment, Director’s House or shelters) for volunteers. Please notify us ASAP to confirm accommodations.

Hill Country Bible Church – NW, weekends we need between 30-40 people throughout the weekend. On Friday we need 4-8 people to help with traffic control and parking, plus another 10-12 people to help with foodservice. Saturday we need 10-12 people for each meal and 20-24 to supervise staffed activities and crowd control. Sunday we need 10-12 people for breakfast and 4-6 for move out and traffic control. The past two years this has been a Christian happening as the fathers and sons are served by Christians that are there to serve them with smiling faces, patience and kindness. Y’all come!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We want to thank you for your continued support of Wilderness Ridge. We value your contributions and want to assure you that we pray that we are wise and efficient with the finances you provide. Your support offsets our operating and maintenance costs which allows us to keep summer camper registration prices low. Thank you for making it possible for us to continue into our 23rd year of camping.

Keeping our camper fee low is a primary objective set out in the charter of the camp. Our prices this summer are $265 for Woodsman Camp (7-12 year olds) and $280 for Young Men (13-17 year olds) compared to Camp Peniel, Forest Glen and Pioneer Camp which are $575 per week. Encourage boys (7-12 years old) or young men (14-16) to come and for their parents to send them to CWR this summer…your neighbors or families within your sphere of influence to come.

The trend for the past four years is 30% of the campers will be on scholarship. We need nearly $14,000 to meet that need. To date we have commitments of $3,800 for the scholarship fund. Also, several of the summer staff raise financial support because they need to earn money for education and living expenses for next fall and their base of family, friends and church community are limited. Please prayerfully consider if God would have you contribute to meeting these needs.

Registrations for summer camp are double the number of campers compared with this time last year. Prayerfully consider if God is calling you to serve at Camp Wilderness Ridge this summer. Men, we need… Servant-Leaders for a group of 8 campers…Chaplain…to work in the kitchen, lead activities…serve as a nurse (only requirements: first aid & CPR certification).

Do you know a young man (14-17 years old) that is a candidate to be a SALT (Servant And Leadership Trainee)? Have them go to: www.wildernessridge.com, then click on View Brochure to learn about SALT and then click Staff Opportunities to read the instructions for the SALT application and the forms to submit.

Day Camps
March 15-19, Spring Break, Camp Wilderness Ridge is offering Day Camp for Bastrop County. We expect to have 40 boys and girls, ages 5-12. We’ll share Bible Stories and lessons. The boys and girls will participate in CWR activities: canoeing, rifles and archery, zip-line, and climbing wall, craft, nature hikes, etc.

Please consider serving with us that week or part of the week. You can stay at the camp overnight either in the lodge, a cabin, your RV, or tent camp. We’ll provide meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) each day for volunteers. Let us know you are coming prior to March 8th via by either email: sandy@wildernessridge.com or call her at 512-237-4442. A background check is required for those 18 or older so provide your full name, primary address, social security number and birth date to Sandy.

Workdays
We are very thankful for the nearly 50 people that came to one of the Saturday Workdays in February. Many of the logs from the over 70 downed trees are have been saw milled into lumber. Saw milled by Fred Fredette’s ministry “Cutting up for the Lord”.

The “measured” lumber we used to build two new cabins and bunk beds (10). Then counter tops in the new food serving area built on the backside of the Chapel. A new counter top for serving food in the kitchen and we built a snack bar area in the foyer area to the kitchen. Also, a new activity The Ga Ga Pit (Israel dodgeball) is being built with the pine lumber.

Retreats & Campouts
We can use your help serving the church retreat groups and father/son or daughter campouts. What we need is help with kitchen tasks, meal set-up and servers, activities assistants (set-up/takedown, and supervisors) and clean-up. We provide meals and sleep accommodations (lodge, apartment, Director’s House or cabin) for volunteers. Please notify us ASAP to confirm accommodations.

—- Wish List —
Defibrillator – $1,600
Frisbee Golf Hole (Portable) – $125 each

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

There is plenty going on at Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR) starting right now. Can you come serve with us?

Workdays
We’re getting ready for heavy, busy retreats, campouts season and a day camp during Spring Break week.
Workdays are scheduled the next three Saturdays, February 6, 13, 20. A workday is a great time to serve as a family or teamed up with son(s) or daughter(s) serving with dad or mom to help us with projects. Projects to get done are: cutting down dead trees, log splitting, haul large logs to saw mill area, finish new cabins (tarps side curtains, & bunk bed mattresses), clear & clean the teaching area at Woodworking Shop, various clean-up projects at the Lodge, First Aid Station, kitchen, laundry room, etc.

Day Camps
March 15-19, Spring Break, Camp Wilderness Ridge is offering Day Camp for Bastrop County. We expect to have 40 boys and girls, ages 5-12. We’ll share Bible Stories and lessons. The boys and girls will participate in CWR activities: canoeing, rifles and archery, zip-line, and climbing wall, craft, nature hikes, etc. plus the newest active The Ga Ga Pit (Israel dodgeball).

Please consider serving with us that week or part of the week. You can stay at the camp overnight either in the lodge, a cabin, your RV, or tent camp. We’ll provide meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) each day for volunteers. To let us know you are coming prior to March 1st via either email: sandy@wildernessridge.com or call CWR office at 512-237-4442. If you are 18 or older we must do a background check so provide full name, primary address, social security number and birth date via email or U.S. mail.

Retreats & Campouts
We can use your help serving the church retreat groups and father/son or daughter campouts. What we need is help in kitchen tasks, meal set-up and servers, activities assistants (set-up/takedown, and supervisors) and clean-up. We provide meals and sleep accommodations (lodge, apartment, Director’s House or cabin) for volunteers. Please notify us ASAP to confirm accommodations. Calendar of these events is under Spring Retreats on CWR website.

Summer Camp 2010
Registrations for summer camp are already 50 campers which is a month earlier than last year. Prayerfully consider if God is calling you to serve at Camp Wilderness Ridge this summer. Men we need you to be Servant-Leaders for a group of 8 campers. Do you know a young man (14-17 years old) that is a candidate to be a SALT (Servant And Leadership Trainee)? Invite a boy (7-12 years old) or young man (14-17) to come to CWR this summer. The Summer Camp 2010 brochure is available. Let me know if you would like some send to you to distribute in your neighborhood or at church, school, or to business associates. Email: ron@wildernessridge.com to request brochures.

Summer Camp 2010 brochures were mailed on Friday, January 29th and an electronic version of the brochure can be accessed on CWR website. Also on the website is a mother’s testimonial of her 2009 camper. It begins “Brendan returned home after spending 5 days at Camp Wilderness Ridge. Surprisingly, my city boy had the time of his life. It is a Christian based camp for boys, and they get to do things that city boys don’t normally get to do. They went canoeing, fishing, learned archery, shot pellet guns, slept in open cabins, ate outside, and went without a/c for 5 whole days!” Go to: www.wildernessridge.com to read the complete story with pictures.

Summer Camp Scholarships
The trend for the past four years is 30% of the campers will be on scholarship. We need nearly $14,000 to meet that need. To date we have commitments of $3,800 for the scholarship fund. Please contribute what you can to meet the needs.

May we all bless our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 2010!

in Him,

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Just as last year, we enter the New Year with uncertainty from our point of view, but we can trust God to meet all our needs. (Philippians 4:19). Ultimately, we win!

As we witness boys and young men coming to Christ Jesus we are encouraging them to be REAL with an acrostic for:

Reproducing other Disciples – Matthew 28: 18-20

Esteeming God above all – Mark 12: 30

Announcing the Good News – Luke 24: 46-47

Living for others – Mark 10: 45

The focus at 2010 Summer Camps is the “A” in being REAL, Announcing the Good News. So Announce the Good News! “He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24: 46-47)

Our primary purpose is to provide Christ-centered, low cost, wilderness camping for boys and young men. Consider who you can encourage to come with your son or make sure your grandson, nephew or boy/young man in your neighborhood, son of a friend at work or guys at your church get the opportunity to experience Camp Wilderness Ridge this summer. Go here for Summer Camp dates and details and to register online. Summer Camp brochures will be mailed at the end of January. Let us know if you would like to receive a package of 6 or more brochures to handout or provide us names with mailing address.

Another opportunity during summer camp is Servant And Leadership Trainees (SALT) for any young man, 14-17 years old, dedicated to following Jesus Christ and seeking Him sincerely and enjoys the outdoors. We provide room and board. Part of the experience is the development of his own ministry support team to join with him by their prayers and financial investment to cover his salary ($100 to $250 per week). A minimum of two consecutive weeks of service is required. Please encourage guys that you believe would contribute to the success of CWR summer camps, to email sandy@wildernessridge.com to request a SALT Application Form.

Men, we wonder if you can come to serve with us as a Servant-Leader (counselor) for a group of 8 boys or young men. You will stay in a cabin with your group and lead devotional times, Bible studies, build relationships with each camper and are with them during activities sessions (canoeing, fishing, high ropes, team building, archery, air-powered rifles, and group games). We particularly appreciate men that are willing to take a vacation week and that have a heart for encouraging the campers in the wilderness that God created. To learn more contact Ron Hunt at ron@wildernessridge.com or call 512-554-5074. Men of God let’s go!

Camp Wilderness Ridge is looking for a man that is a committed follower of Jesus Christ to serve as Program Director/Assistant Camp Director. This person will assist the Camp Director with aggressive and successful growth of the organization while not compromising the mission. Areas of responsibility: risk management, camp programs development (Biblical impact & activities), and camp operations. To obtain a Job Description and other details contact Camp Director, Ron Hunt at ron@wildernessridge.com or call: 512-554-5074.

We have moved to a new approach for our www.wildernessridge.com which gives us more flexibility and speedy update capacities. Please visit our website regularly to learn about the latest activities and updates on CWR.

We still have over 40 dead pine or oak trees that must be cut down. Helpers for saw milling are also needed. Please contact Anthony Ramos at anthony@wildernessridge.com if you can come to help anytime in December or January. This is a great opportunity for fathers and sons to come serve together.

Praise God! We are thankful for what God is doing at Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR).

Anthony Ramos’ medical expenses to treat Anthony’s leg burns are completely paid. Thank you for your prayers and response.

Update on Sandy Hunt’s herniated disk with compressed nerve and a bone spur on the next disk. Sandy’s treatments by a Myopractor have given her a complete recovery. To strengthen her physical condition she will work with a physical trainer and nutritionist. By the way it happens that person recommended is a woman whose sons have been at CWR for several summers. Thank you for your prayers.

Rain for the past three months has made a huge impact on eliminating the drought conditions.

Please pray for:
•	New summer camp converts to stay strong in their faith, to find a Bible believing church, and to join with Christian guys that want to be followers of Jesus Christ and to find a mentor.
•	Wisdom as we work on plans for Summer Camps 2010 and begin to execute those plans.
•	Gale Fredette (Resident Volunteer) recovery from November 2 knee surgery.

As the closure of 2009 approaches, please remember that Camp Wilderness Ridge is all about affordable, Christ-centered camping for boys and men. Please pray about any financial gifts that God leads you to give to CWR to help the year close out in a positive financial balance in our General Fund or CWR staff accounts.

in Him,

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

September has been a very busy and event filled month. It started with Sandy Hunt experiencing a great deal of pain early morning Saturday, September 5. After visiting Bastrop Lakeside Hospital to rule out a heart attack, the initial diagnosis was a pinched nerve in the neck area on the left side. Sandy remained in intense pain for about 10 days. During those 10 days she saw a spine doctor, physical therapist and finally a pain doctor. Diagnosis is a herniated disk that is compressing a nerve plus a bone spur on the next disk. The pain doctor was finally able to prescribe a pain medication that gave her about 50% relief and also injected steroids into the disk area. On Friday, September 25th Sandy started to experience some improvement which has allowed her to begin to be more active and extend the time between pain medications. Please pray for Sandy’s complete recovery without surgery.

Anthony Ramos medical expenses payment account is $8,900 (contributions from friends of CWR is $6,500 and 9/26 garage sale proceeds are $2,400), the total of the medical bills is $14,717. We received an email from a Houston Christian School teacher that stated his students are bringing in contributions throughout September. Praise God for His provisions.

On workdays September 12, 19, & 26 we were blessed with a total of 48 people who participated in cutting down 35-40 dead pine & oak trees. We have about 50 logs that will be saw milled into “actual size” lumber that will be used for building and repair projects. We’re thankful for God providing these people and for His protection. There are additional dead trees that need to come down. We have retreats/campouts every weekend in October so tree cutting will need to happen during the week. Please let us know if you can come, contact Ron Hunt, email:ron@wildernessridge.com or call 512-554-5074.

October is full with retreats/campouts each weekend. Review the calendar (see back of page) to consider coming to serve those churches with us. Help with foodservice or assist or supervise activities (zip-line, climbing wall, team building elements, archery/rifle ranges, craft, etc.).

We are thankful for what God is doing at Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR).

Please pray for:

New summer camp converts to stay strong in their faith, to find a Bible believing church, and to join with Christian guys that want to be followers of Jesus Christ and to find a mentor.

Contributions for Anthony’s medical expenses and for financial commitments for CWR staff compensation.

Gale Fredette (Resident Volunteer) as she recovers from knee replacement surgery and for protection from cuts because she is taking blood thinner medication.

Praise for the rain in September and for additional rain in October.

In Him,
Ron Hunt, Camp Director
