August 2013 Newsletter

CWR Family,

A camper came to Shawn Hammer, Assistant Director, asking for some blank sheets of paper. He then wrote similar notes to Servant-Leaders and adult leaders that week.

I want to thank you for making my camp experience much better. I had a wonderful time playing the games and canoeing on the river with you. It was a lot of fun and you taught me so much on that trip and we got to talk about the Lord. I enjoyed learning about you and your and life. Thanks again for helping to point me in the right direction. Have a great summer and God bless you and your family. You, your daughter, and family are in my prayers.
— Summer Camper

We give thanks for God’s protection and provision this summer supplying 88 summer staff serving as Servant-Leaders, Chaplains, Worship Leaders, Medical Officers, Kitchen Volunteers and the SALT (Servant And Leadership Trainee). These SALT guys make it happen– assisting the camper families arrival with water bottles and transport of camper’s gear, working the setups (meals & games), clean-up, maintenance tasks (mopping, restroom sanitizing, trash emptying, etc.), water activities, lifeguards and high ropes assistants. Please check out our "Work at Camp!" page if you want to be a part of Summer Camp 2014.

Bacon Departure

Alex “Bacon” Becerra has resigned from his staff position at Camp Wilderness Ridge. He has served CWR well, both as a staff member (internship and maintenance specialist) for two years and as volunteer and “contract labor” for nearly three years. Alex will be missed as a contributing staff member, having served CWR faithfully. He accepted Christ Jesus as his Savior about a year after he began serving at CWR. He is eligible to be rehired.

Please keep Alex in your prayers as he enters this next phase.

Please pray with us…

  • Safety and Success in our service to the Lord and to the people God brings to CWR!
  • Fill CWR with retreats and campouts calendar
  • Volunteers to serve us for retreats, campouts, and workdays this Fall 2013
  • Summer Camps 2014 planning and recruiting
  • Staff financial support to reach their 2013 budget target

GO Bastrop

July 21-27 a mission team of students from Hill Country Bible Church – Austin established a base camp at Camp Wilderness Ridge to work projects to impact the recovery from the 2011 wildfire disaster for 5 hours each morning. They were joined by 18 students from two Bastrop area churches: Grace Bible Fellowship and River Valley Christian Fellowship. Monday through Thursday evenings Backyard Bible Clubs (BYBCs) were presented at 4 homes of these churches as well as one at Bastrop Boys & Girls Club located in a public housing neighborhood. A gathering on Friday evening of all the BYBC participants during the week had a celebration hosted by Bastrop Bible Church…SummerFest with inflatables, games, music and dancing, and free food and cold drinks. A total of 91 children came to BYBCs with 21 making decisions to follow Jesus Christ!
