November 2012 Newsletter

Praise God for meeting our “After Fire” Milestone #2: A successful Fall Retreats/Compout season! We served 9 groups, a total of 450 people, September thru November. It is amazing what God has done within 15 months of the devastating wildfire. Many of the attendees commented on how good it was to be back and for CWR be available again.Milestone #1 was having CWR summer camps last summer. Contact Bryan Turner, about details and dates for 2013 events at Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR).

In that same time frame, two new staff have hit the ground running, Shawn Hammer, Assistant Camp Director and Bryan Turner, Retreats/Camping Director. CWR is a faith based ministry which means we trust God to provide how and through whomever He chooses. Pray for them to have all their financial needs met and to be filled with joy serving our Lord Christ Jesus.

Praise God! Electricity expansion cost of $17,000 is 100% covered $17,000 in donations plus a special donation to cover the Houston Toad fee.

Loblolly Pine Trees will be planted at the old CWR site on 75 acres. The Texas Forest Service prepared a Forest Stewardship Plan. CWR will pay 25% of the cost as follows: $45 per acre for tree planting plus $30 per acre to Herbicide application (TFS has wavier to spraying in April 2013). The total CWR investment is $1,406.25. Planting could begin as soon as December, 2012. The pine trees could grow as tall 10-15 foot in 10 years with normal rain fall amounts. Perhaps the beloved pine tree forest can be restored for CWR…we’re moving forth by faith because God is faithful.

CWR Workday, Saturday, December 1st We have numerous projects everything from completing construction of cover over deck outside of the café, mat & mop clean-up area, and camper cabin to carpentry work on door frames, windows, etc. and refinishing tables and benches at the main camp. At the Lakeside camp we have chain saw work to accomplish. Chain saw workers must wear helmets with shield or safety glasses, and chaps.

Please arrive anytime you can after 8:30 am. Lunch will be provided. We work until about 4:30 pm. Contact Shawn Hammer at with questions. A group of youth from Grace Covenant Church is coming that day to work on the main camp projects. Come join them!

Finances As we reach the year-end CWR is in need of a financial boast as we enter 2013 to make-up for lower summer camp and retreat revenues, and increases in operation costs such as: liability & facilities insurance, lease payments beginning in January 2013, utilities, etc. CWR staff raises their own financial support (see prayer request below).

Please pray for Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR)

    • For more rain.
    • For each CWR camper to have a relationship, or to grow his relationship with Christ Jesus.
    • For CWR financial needs be met: staff financial (support rising) monthly targets, rebuilding camp facilities and general funds for operation expenses (water, electric, insurance, trash services, etc.).
    • God’s vision, holiness, wisdom and unity for the CWR Board of Directors and staff so they all decisions and actions bring Christ Jesus honor and glory.
    • Protection from spiritual attack.

We greatly appreciate your partnership with us through your prayers and financial investment to Camp Wilderness Ridge (CWR).
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Christ Jesus,

Ron Hunt

Camp Director
