Spring Blossoms at Camp Wilderness Ridge

Spring has blossomed and summer prep is underway

There are a few more spring weekends left as we wrap up the camp's Retreat season and camp staff completes our preparations for the 2016 Summer Camp season. This year brings new challenges having lost the camp facilities in the Hidden Pines Fire last October. Our summer program this year will be held at the McKinney Roughs Nature Park which is managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). McKinney Roughs is an 1100 acre nature park next to the Colorado River 13 miles west of Bastrop, TX. We are working with the LCRA park staff to ensure a safe and fun camp experience in line with our previous camp operations in the Lost Pines area. For two weeks of Woodsman Camp, boys aged 7-13 will have the opportunity to learn about leadership in a Christ-centered outdoor camp experience. We will have the camp activities that they love, including confidence building high ropes challenges, team building low ropes course, archery, hatchet throwing, primitive camping, and a host of other camp activities. Campfire gatherings each day will provide an opportunity for our Chaplain to share the gospel and provide lessons in leadership and discipleship. We'll spend time on the Colorado River with an LCRA-led rafting trip. And of course there will be evening campfires and s'mores. Woodsman Camps run the weeks of July 10 and July 17. For more information, visit our Woodsman Camp page.

Adventure trips for older teens

We have three Adventure trips planned over the next several months. With many years experience and training in camping and wilderness safety, our staff will lead groups of 13-17 year olds on challenging backpacking and camping adventures at parks in Texas and in the mountains of New Mexico. Our first trip is scheduled for the long Memorial Day weekend, and two trips to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains will cap the summer at the end of July and in early August. Learn more on our Adventures page.

Six months ago today, the facilities of Camp Wilderness Ridge were destroyed by the Hidden Pines Fire. While our camp and retreat ministry continues at rented facilities, we are in the process of purchasing property outside the burned area to build a new campground from which we can teach boys and young men a life of leadership in Christ. We hope to have a major announcement by the end of this month and then begin the process of rebuilding the facilities needed for our ministry. We'll need help and we will be asking you to be a part of creating a legacy of boys growing into men of God who will lead families and communities in Christ-centered living. Please consider whether you are called support our rebuilding efforts. Watch for announcements on workday opportunities and please consider supporting us financially at the Donations page on our website.

Join us in celebrating a new camper with Cody and Rebekah Benge. On April 10th they became the proud parents of Leland Burl Benge. Leland was born in La Grange, TX and all three are home and healthy.

Servant-Leadership Opportunities

Positions for participating in our Servant and Leadership Training (SALT) program are available for Summer 2016. This is a great opportunity for young men 13 and older to serve others in a learning environment.
