Our team — we are here to serve YOU!

"Ranger" Ron Hunt, Director Of Advancement

Ron & Sandy both grew up in Oklahoma -- Sandy in Miami and Ron in Tulsa.  Prior to coming to camp they resided in the NW Austin area for nearly 25 years, serving as lay leaders in ministries such as AWANA, Jr. High, College, and Nursery (2-3 year old).  In August 2006, they joined CWR and moved into the recently built Camp Director's house.  Even though their house was one of the 24 buildings destroyed in the 2011 Bastrop Wildfires, they consider Wilderness Ridge their home.  Their focus remains on leading boys to Christ Jesus... training Biblical men to lead their community, church and family.

"The crazy experience is that students we served in Jr. High are coming to camp with their families or sending their sons to CWR Summer Camps"  says Ron.

"We are devoted to 'Loving the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength.'  Mark 10:45"

They are beloved to staff and campers alike.

Neil "Chainsaw" Kenagy, Executive DIRECTOR

Neil, his wife, Karen, and their three children (Robyn, Daniel, and Ben) have been involved at Wilderness Ridge for over 20 years. Starting out at a Father-Son camp in the 90s, they have camped and served at Wilderness Ridge regularly over the past two decades. Neil served on the camp's Board of Directors over 14 years, including several years as Chairman.

Karen and Neil grew up in Oregon, both in camping families, and attended several youth camps together as young teens. They were married in 1979 and have lived in Oregon, Washington, Japan, and Texas while Neil worked as a software and services expert in the field of Electronic Design Automation. Karen is a Special Ed teacher who loves working with middle school students. Their children live in the Austin, Nashville and Dallas. They have three grand-children.

Bryan "Taco" Turner, Director of Summer Camps & Marketing

Bryan has a B.A. in Christian Thought from Grove City College and been leading in the outdoors for the last 10 years. The Turners credit the 2011 Bastrop Complex Fire for getting them committed to the ministry of Camp Wilderness Ridge. They had just visited and taken a tour of the original camp one week before the fire, and it was through volunteering during the recovery that Bryan and Claire got involved in leading weekend retreats. They've been living and working at camp since October 2012. Their first daughter Becca Riley was born November 24, 2014, and is objectively the easiest, cutest, smartest baby the world has ever seen ;-)

Jeremy "Forklift" Thomasson, Director of Retreats & Camping

Jeremy first served with us in spring 2013, while completing an internship for a B.S. in Recreational Management.  He and his newlywed wife Lindsey (married in September) both graduated from University of North Texas.  We were surprised when he first approached us at how closely the vision God had put on his heart aligned with the mission and vision of CWR.  He was hired as a full-time staff member in September 2013. Jackson Lee was born on July 30, 2015.

Cody "_____" Benge, Business Manager

Cody's first time to serve at camp was as a Servant Leader in the summer of 2012. After graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington with a finance degree the following May, He served as the Program Director and Worship Leader. Camp Wilderness Ridge seemed like a great fit for him, and he shortly after came on full time as the Business Manager.

"If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason."
- Jack Handey
